Rowan Piece

Local charity Rowan, based in Humberstone Road, Cambridge were the recipients of the monies raised by the collection held this year during the Earth Sciences Annual Art Show.

The Art show runs each year in September and is open to all staff, students and families. The show is an eclectic mix of works, including paintings, sculptures, photographs, models, needlework , in fact anything that Earth Sciences staff care to exhibit.

The Rowan was chosen as their mission is to give artistic opportunities to learning-disable people. Maryline Vautravers and Helen Houghton were delighted to be able to visit the Rowan and see for themselves the excellent facilities available and the beautiful work they do. You may have seen the new sign at the Milton Country Park or the wood carvings in the Cambridge Corn Exchange. Woodcarving is just one of the wide range of activities on offer at the Rowan. They also have facilities for pottery, painting, drawing, needlework etc. Maryline and Helen handed over a cheque for £182 from the collection. The Rowan, being a small, local charity, this contribution will go some way towards a project or materials. The Rowan hold regular open evenings where they sell some of the pieces made there. The upcoming open evening is on 6th of December. Full details of the Rowan’s work is available on their website:

A big thank you to everyone who exhibited, helped, looked, ate cake and contributed to the success of this year’s Art Show and helped raise money for the Rowan.
